Listening To The Beliefs Of Emerging Churches

Listening_to_beliefs In the comments in the previous blog posting, I was asked which "emerging churches" have belief or doctrinal statements. I commented briefly on that in a response comment, but there is a book Zondervan is putting out in February 2007 called "Listening to the Beliefs of Emerging Churches".

In this book five pastors of "emerging churches" were asked to write about their beliefs and theological approach.  We then each wrote commentary about the others.

This may be helpful for those interested in specific leaders and churches in terms of doctrine. But also of interest is if you were to go on each leader's web sites you would find that 4 of the 5 in this book, do list specific creeds or doctrinal statements on their church web sites.  So, the "stereotype" which emphatically stated that emerging churches are rejecting historical doctrines and that most don't teach doctrines isn't a valid belief. I put links to the belief statement on the web site of each the 4 of 5 pastors and the emerging churches they are part of. You can click on each name below to see them:
