Robert Webber died last night after a long battle with cancer. He was one of the first to start writing about "ancient-future" worship. He taught at Wheaton Seminary and Northern Seminary and some other seminaries I think. I met him several years ago and had several good chats through the years and I was very impressed with his passion to see worship to be deep and scripturally based. He gave a talk about the Trinity and worship that I will always remember. I didn't know him too well, but had the privilege of being on a panel with him at Talbot Seminary a few years ago and also part of the Listening To The Beliefs of Emerging Churches book, which he was the general editor and put the whole book concept together.
Death is a weird thing - as I sit here and type and ponder the news of his death. One day we all shall be in our Maker's presence. I hope when I am old, or whenever it is that is God's timing for me, that I will end serving well and faithfully as Bob did. We are here for a short time, although it sometimes feel long, but it is short and we each have a mission and task that we are assigned with in this life.
From reading the emails that were sent out by his family during the last couple of months and as he faced the cancer, he was a passionate worshiper till the very end. Well done, good and faithful servant - Bob. Thank you for your example of faithfulness and devotion to Jesus who you are now in His presence.
