Last night just past midnight I recorded my video for "The Nines" that Leadership network is putting on next Wednesday, September 9... 09/09/09 at 9:09 AM. You can go here for more info.
You have 9 minutes to record something you are passionate about sharing with other leaders.
It felt a little like doing Twitter when you want to write 500 words but only can write 140 words, which becomes especially difficult if you are passionate about something. But like Twitter you have only 9 limited minutes to communicate something for The Nines.
So after midnight, down in The Abbey in our church building - I recorded on my Dell laptop webcam 9 minutes of thinking. I won't say what it was, but it included Mac vs. PC, punk rock, and someone who seriously accused us of doing something satanic in our church building.
What I talked about in the Nines was totally unscripted and I had no notes or prepped flow written out. I had one primary line of thought about something I passionately believe all leaders need to think about and then simply shared from my heart about it in a post-midnight way.
The list of people they have is really great and I look forward to watching everyone next Wednesday and what they will share. I imagined some of the recordings being done so well with nice video cameras, and I was using my little Dell webcam propped on a chair. But I bet I recorded it later at night than anyone else did - past midnight for me. I love Leadership Network and their constant energy towards innovation, ideas and people sharing ideas as we all learn together. The names of people on The Nines is:
Mark Driscoll (Mars Hill Church)
Reggie McNeal (Leadership Network)
Perry Noble (NewSpring Church)
John Ortberg (Menlo Park Presbyterian)
Steven Furtick (Elevation Church)
Nancy Beach (Willow Creek Church)
Leonard Sweet (Author/Speaker)
Stacy Spencer (New Direction Christian Church)
Ed Stetzer (Lifeway Research)
Mark Batterson (National Community Church)
Larry Osborne (North Coast Church)
Dave Ferguson (Community Christian Church)
Alan Hirsch (Forge Mission Training Network)
Dino Rizzo (Healing Place Church)
Dan Kimball (Vintage Faith Church)
Greg Surratt (Seacoast Church)
Sam Chand (Sam Chand Ministries)
Bil Cornelius (Bay Area Fellowship)
and a bunch of others. See the web site for full list.
I am now spending the next 5 days straight finishing the Zondervan book. I preached 4 weeks in a row a Vintage Faith Church and now have to really nail this down and finish it. Today I am writing about the tension of how Christianity comes across in our culture when we believe that Jesus is the only way of salvation and what about when you are looking at a Muslim right across the small coffee table and talking to him about that and he then asks you "So you think I am going to hell if I don't believe Jesus was Savior and believe in Islam? (which is true the story I share to open the chapter with).
